Philip Rinaldi

Philip Rinaldi is the founding partner, Chairman & CEO of Philadelphia Energy Solutions LLC. In 2012, he and the Carlyle Group, created PES to acquire the Point Breeze and Girard Point oil refineries from Sunoco. These refineries process up to 350,000 barrels/day of crude oil on a 1,500 acre South Philadelphia refining complex, the largest on the Eastern Seaboard. Mr. Rinaldi also Chairs the Greater Philadelphia Energy Action Team, a regional coalition organized to stimulate manufacturing by developing Philadelphia as an energy hub valorizing Marcellus shale natural gas. Mr. Rinaldi has been an investor and/or the principal executive in a wide range of industries including: oil refining, oil exploration, phosphate mining and chemical production, coke gasification, nitrogen chemical production, zinc refining, and the production of molybdenum, rhenium, and vanadium derivatives. Mr. Rinaldi’s background includes prominent companies such as Exxon, Phibro, Tosco, Coffeyville Resources, Conserv, Seminole, and Mulberry. Mr. Rinaldi earned his BS and MS degrees in Chemical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1968 and 1976, respectively.

Kaushik Amin

Kaushik Amin is currently a partner at SilverRange Capital Partners, a commodities focused merchant banking firm in New York. He is also the President of North Atlantic Refinery Limited, a 115,000 barrels per day refinery in Newfoundland, Canada. Mr. Amin was Head of FICC Americas at UBS from 2010 to 2012. In 2009, Mr. Amin was Chief Executive Officer of RBS Sempra Commodities, a Joint Venture between Sempra Energy and Royal Bank of Scotland focused on physical commodities trading. The European Commission mandated the sale of RBS's stake in October 2009 when the business was sold to JP Morgan. From 1994 to 2008, Mr. Amin worked at Lehman Brothers; in his final role, he was the Global Head of Liquid Markets (Rates, Foreign Exchange, Emerging Markets, Commodities and Proprietary Trading). Mr. Amin holds a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and a Ph. D. in Finance from Cornell University.  He was a professor of Finance at the University of Michigan from 1989 to 1994, with research and teaching interests in asset pricing, derivatives, and financial markets.

MODERATOR:

Antoine Halff

Antoine Halff is Senior Fellow and Director of the Global Oil Markets Research Program at the Center on Global Energy Policy, Columbia University. His 20-year career in energy spans the worlds of government, international organizations, consulting, Wall Street, higher education and the media. He joined the Center in September 2015 from his previous position as Chief Oil Analyst at the International Energy Agency (IEA) and editor of two of its most authoritative publications, the monthly Oil Market Report (OMR) and the annual Medium-Term Oil Market Report (MTOMR), both of which gained considerable influence under his watch. Prior to that, Halff served as Lead Industry Economist at the U.S. Energy Information Administration and at firms Newedge and Fimat as First Vice President and Head of Commodity Research. Earlier in his career Halff worked as a reporter at Dow Jones and Petroleum Intelligence Weekly, launched the Global Energy practice at Eurasia Group and served as its Director.
