Please join the New York Energy Forum, in partnership with the Americas Society/Council of the Americas and the Canadian Consulate in New York, for a panel discussion on the advances and future of energy in North America. Our panelists will discuss how energy integration has deepened since NAFTA came into effect 20 years ago, as well as the future prospects for regional cooperation.

Robert Skinner
Dr. Robert Skinner is Executive Fellow of the School of Public Policy and Advisor on Energy Research Strategy at the University of Calgary. He has held several positions with the Canadian federal government's Energy Ministry including posts in environment policy, energy trade and oil and gas markets and price regulation. As Assistant Deputy Minister of Energy Commodities from 1985 to 1988 he played a leading role in the liberalization of Canada's energy markets and trade with the United States. He is the author of numerous papers, articles and lectures, contributor to books and studies on energy, geopolitics and policy. He advises governments in Latin America, Europe and Asia and is associated with numerous think tanks in Europe and North America.

Monica Gattinger
Monica Gattinger is Associate Professor at University of Ottawa. Her research explores two primary fields: the influence of North American economic integration on domestic and cross-border public policy, administration and governance (with particular reference to the energy sector), and the origin and evolution of Canadian federal and provincial cultural policy in comparative interprovincial and international perspective. Most recently, she is co-editor with Diane Saint-Pierre (INRS-UCS) of 'Les politiques culturelles provinciales et territoriales du Canada: Origines, évolutions et mises en oeuvre' (PUL, 2011) and co-editor with Geoffrey Hale (Lethbridge) of 'Borders and Bridges: Canada's Policy Relations in North America' (Oxford, 2010). With G. Bruce Doern (Carleton/Exeter), she co-authored 'Power Switch: Energy Regulatory Governance in the Twenty-First Century' (University of Toronto Press, 2003). Professor Gattinger is currently authoring a book on Canada-US energy and energy-climate change relations since the coming into force of the Canada-US Free Trade Agreement.
