SPEAKERS 

Helima Croft

Helima is a Managing Director and the Global Head of Commodity Strategy at RBC Capital Markets. She specializes in geopolitics and energy, leading a team of commodity strategists that cover energy, metals and cross-commodity investor activity. Helima is a member of the National Petroleum Council, a select group of individuals who advise, inform and make recommendations to the Secretary of Energy with respect to any matter relating to oil and natural gas. She also is a CNBC contributor, a member of the channel’s exclusive family of experts, is on the Board of Directors for the Atlantic Council, and is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Helima joined RBC Capital Markets from Barclays, where she was a Managing Director and Head of North American Commodities Research. Prior to that, she worked in Lehman’s Business Intelligence group and the Council on Foreign Relations, where she focused on geopolitics and commodities. Helima has received many industry accolades throughout her career and received her PhD in economic history from Princeton in 2001.

Amy Myers Jaffe

Amy Myers Jaffe is the David M. Rubenstein Senior Fellow for Energy and the Environment at the Council on Foreign Relations. For the past several years, Ms. Jaffe has served as Executive Director for Energy and Sustainability at the University of California Davis, and senior advisor on energy and sustainability at the Office of the Chief Investment Officer of the University of California Regents. She was also formerly a global fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. Prior to joining the University of California, Davis, Amy served as founding director of the Energy Forum at Rice University's James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy and its Wallace S. Wilson fellow for energy studies.

Ms. Jaffe is widely published, including as coauthor of Oil, Dollars, Debt and Crises: The Global Curse of Black Gold with Mahmoud El-Gamal and coeditor of Natural Gas and Geopolitics From 1970 to 2040. She is President-Elect of the US Association for Energy Economics and a member of the World Economic Forum's (WEF) Global Future Council on International Security. Prior to serving on the International Security panel, Ms. Jaffe was chair of the Global Agenda Council on the Future of Oil and Gas for the WEF. She was awarded the Senior Fellow award from the United States Association for Energy Economics in 2015 for her career contributions to the organization and to the field of energy

Michael Tran

Michael Tran is a Managing Director within the Energy Strategy Research team at RBC Capital Markets based in New York. He is responsible for views pertaining to global energy markets including macro supply and demand fundamentals. He was formerly in a similar capacity at CIBC World Markets where he was part of a team that was previously voted most accurate forecaster of WTI oil prices by Bloomberg. Prior to that, he worked on the energy sales and trading desk at CIBC in Calgary and UBS Investment Bank in London. He has also held various roles at BP and has experience in energy investment banking.

Mr. Tran's energy views are often quoted in media outlets like the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, New York Times, Business Insider, Bloomberg and Reuters. He also routinely appears on television networks like BNN and Bloomberg. Mr. Tran frequently provides market insight to the Alberta government on energy policy and budgeting issues. He is also a former co-chair of the Commodities committee for New York Energy Week. He graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance and Economics.
