Soaring oil prices and energy security fears have historically accelerated the push for renewables; however, this crisis has not only exposed vulnerabilities in global oil and gas supply chains but also highlighted challenges facing clean energy deployment, critical mineral dependencies, supply chain concentration, financing constraints and uneven policy support. Do heightened geopolitical risks strengthen the case for electrification, renewables, batteries and alternative fuels, or do they reinforce the importance of conventional energy?
Panelists will explore how governments, markets and companies are balancing energy security, economic competitiveness and climate objectives and whether the current crisis represents a genuine turning point for the energy transition or simply another chapter in a long history of energy market volatility.

Amy Jaffe
Amy Myers Jaffe serves as Director of the Global Energy, Climate, and Sustainability Lab (GECS) at New York University’s School of Professional Studies and is a research professor who teaches graduate-level courses examining global climate finance, clean technology innovation and business, and AI and energy. A leading expert on global energy policy, sustainability, and geopolitical risk, Jaffe is author of several books, including her most recent book, “Energy’s Digital Future” published in 2021 by Columbia University Press. Ms. Jaffe is a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Climate Policy Lab at Tufts University and a regular contributor to the popular podcast “The Energy Gang.” From 2014 to 2017, Ms. Jaffe served as senior advisor on energy and sustainability to the Office of the Chief Investment Officer of the University of California, Regents, where she helped design the sustainable investing framework for the UC’s $140 billion pension and endowment funds.
Jigar Shah
Jigar Shah is an energy entrepreneur, investor and strategist who was on the 2024 TIME100 list of the world’s most influential people. Currently, he is co-managing partner of Multiplier LLC, a cleantech and climate tech advisory firm. Shah most recently served as director of the U.S. Department of Energy Loan Programs Office, where he transformed the agency, overseeing deployment of $108 billion in debt financing for clean energy and advanced transportation projects nationwide. Previously, Shah was co-founder and president of Generate Capital, founder of SunEdison and founding CEO of the global nonprofit Carbon War Room. He co-hosts the popular podcast “Open Circuit.” Shah has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from the University of Maryland.

Atul Arya is Senior Vice President and Chief Energy Strategist at S&P Global and is responsible for integrating energy content, analysis and insights across the entire energy value chain and for C-suite client engagements. Dr. Arya’s areas of expertise include energy strategy, climate change, energy transition, renewables, CCS, Hydrogen, clean energy technologies, upstream oil and gas and energy markets. He has previously led Energy Insight, Research and Analysis, and Energy Research teams at IHS and IHS Markit. Dr. Arya has over 35 years of leadership experience in the energy industry, including senior positions with bp. His international career spans a diverse array of energy fields from strategy development and business planning to field operations and technology innovation. Dr. Arya has previously served on boards of several companies and institutions including Tata BP Solar, Green Mountain Energy and National Council for Atmospheric Research. He was a member of the World Economic Forum’s Agenda Council on the Future of Oil and Gas and Adjunct Senior Fellow at Council on Foreign Relations. Dr. Arya holds B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in petroleum engineering.
